I have seen a large variety of pieces in the workshop again this year, from very old oak coffers to very modern coffee/occasional tables. More and more people are inheriting post war oak furniture from their parents, much of it covered with a dark varnish to give it the then fashionable 'Jacobethan' look. Once this varnish is removed I often find good quality oak with red/orange tones which looks great when re-finished and which blends well with today's modern look. So think twice before discarding any you might have!

I have enjoyed a lifelong interest in, and study of, antique furniture and was lucky enough to receive a traditional training in restoration techniques. I am committed to carrying out all repairs sympathetically to the highest standards.

I have established my own workshop in the New Forest village of Pilley, just two miles north east of Lymington, Hampshire.

Over restoration and inappropriate repair can cause irreversible damage to antique furniture, adversely affecting both its charm and value. There are many restorers operating today who remove all signs of age and patination from an antique and make the piece look old in style only and new in appearance. I endeavour to keep restoration to a minimum and to retain as much of the original surface and material as possible. Many tired and neglected antiques can be carefully restored to show their antique pedigree and look well cared for. That is my aim.

I use traditional glues, polishes and preparations where appropriate, and keep a large stock of antique timber and period veneer, so essential for sympathetic restoration work.

I restore for private, corporate and occasionally trade clients and am happy to discuss any aspect of furniture restoration, whether the piece is antique or modern.
All items are insured whilst undertaking restoration and the workshop is protected by a modern alarm system and I do not charge VAT.
Please have a look at some of the photographs showing pieces before, during and after restoration.
I look forward to hearing from you and should you wish you can email me digital photographs of your furniture via the contact page.
